TCCBB Review Questions

  1. A brief plot overview: Benjamin Button was born as an old man on the outside but a young child on the inside. So throughout the movie Benjamin got younger and younger on the outside but got older and older on the inside. His mother sadly dies after his birth and his father quickly gets rid of him by leaving him on the doorstep of a retirement home. He is brought up by a Black couple. At about age 12 he meets a friend named Daisy, who through out the film he waits until he is the correct age so he is able to go for her. It takes convincing but they finally get together, and even have a child until Benjamin thinks it is the best decision to leave the family as he knows that soon he will no longer be able to parent his child because he will be too young. The story finishes with Daisy (an old woman now) holding baby Benjamin in her arms as he dies. The whole story is narrated by Benjamin and Daisy’s daughter Caroline who reads his stories/journals that he left for her. She does this as her mother Daisy is dying and the very end of the movie finishes with her slowly passing away.
  2. What kind of person is Benjamin? Even though he knows he is different he never let that stop him from doing anything. He was determined and had a good work ethic towards anything he did. He is naturally introverted as he didn’t have many friends growing up since he didn’t go to school and stayed at the retirement home.
  3. Daisy always accepted Benjamin even when they were opposite ages. She recognised his kind heart and determined personality from the start and was able to ignore his old looks. Daisy shows how strong not just physical but mentally she is in her ballet. She is very tough and never stops trying even if sometimes she has to, this is shown heavily after she is no longer able to dance due to being hit by the taxi car.
